About Ci Munro
Munro Caravans was established in 1948 in Otorohanga by the Munro brothers and is one of New Zealand’s oldest caravan and motorhome manufacturers. It is estimated that we have produced in excess of 20,000 caravans and motorhomes (a fire in 1984 destroying exact record records).
From inception through to the late 1960’s, the company solely manufactured the hugely successful Crusader range of caravans. At that point having acquired Oxford Levin, the company became a member of the Caravans International Group and became known as Caravans International Munro Limited. With access to European designs and technology the company began manufacturing and selling the Oxford and Sprite caravans alongside the Crusader range.
The company survived the decimation of the caravan market in the mid 70’s, as it had already diversified into the motor home trade supplying to Avis, Newmans & Horizon Rental companies.
In 1984 CiMunro suffered a major blow when the entire factory was burnt to the ground.
In 1995 CiMunro became part of the Tourism Holdings Limited, the owner of Maui and Britz campervans and motorhomes.
In 2007 we moved from our original factory in Otorohanga to a new facility at Te Rapa, Hamilton and bought a well respected motor body building business, Action Motor Bodies.
In 2009 we acquired the Leisure Built brand of holiday homes and relocatables.
CiMunro now builds all the motorhomes for its sister companies, as well as building a range of private motor homes and commercial caravans. In addition Action Motor Bodies designs and builds mobile units such as the NZ Police Mobile Breath Testing (Booze Buses), Mobile Dental Units and Medical Units for various DHBs (District Health Boards).
CiMunro is a founding member of the RVCMANZ (Recreational Vehicle And Caravan Manufacturers Association of New Zealand) which is a voluntary organization that has been set up to ensure Quality Build of Quality Products to strict NZ standards and codes.
